Welcome to Year 1!
Don't forget your swimming kit! We swim every Tuesday - coming soon photos of us in the pool !
Recent learning
We enjoyed our latest creative maths lesson by using scales to weigh our favourite sweeties! Do you know how many Minstrels weigh the same as a pencil? - We do!
Can you guess how many jelly beans weigh the same as a tangerine?
We love apples!
We have all been very excited to be able to visit the superb new ICT and Apple suite. We have enjoyed researching old toys using the laptops and the new ipads are lots of fun! We have also learned how to use the ipads to photograph growing plants as part of our science research.
Bears, Robots and Frogs invade Year 1 !!
Well done to those children in year 1 who are working hard to complete their class reading challenge.
We have given every child a set of common high frequency words to learn to read on sight - that means within 3-4 seconds without having to sound out each letter. Children also need to be able to spell each word correctly.
As children complete a set of words they move onto the next level from Bears (Reception level) to Robots (Year 1 level) and on to Frogs (Year 1 level).
Children practice reading and writing these words EVERY day in class so it is important that they bring in their book bag containing their words EVERY day. We would ask you to support your child's reading and spelling by ensuring they read and write the words at home. This should take no more than 5 minutes. Some parents have already noticed how much their child's reading has improved since using this support.
Mother's Day Assembly
We led the mother's day assembly this year and reminded everyone how special Mums'are. We celebrated afterwards with a class treat - party food and a Cinderella on DVD.
