Reading For Pleasure

Picture 1
At St Anne's, we know that inspiring a love of literacy in our pupils so they fall in love with reading for life is one of the best ways to hook children into reading and writing. We are focused on providing as many opportunities as possible in order to nurture that love of reading.

In Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1, our children have access to Read, Write Inc Book Bag books which match the particular phonics stage that the children are working at. Key Stage 2 children use Accelerated Reader ZPD levels to help them to access a range of books that are matched to their reading ability.

We use a reading into writing approach in our English lessons and all of our plans centre around a rich diet of beautiful books including: 'A Story Like The Wind' by Gill Lewis; 'A River' by Marc Martin and 'Henry’s Freedom Box' by Ellen Levine to name but a few.
